Summer? Don't remind me...

So many of my friends on Facebook are posting about summer...

"Only 19 more days of being up this early..."

"Only 4 more Mondays."

"Counting down the days until summer!"

Or they are even talking about the summer of a teacher. Oh, you know what I'm talking about, don't you? We totally still work during the summer, don't we? Going to trainings, inservice, making games, etc.

Let me be frank with you. I'm jealous.

I LOVE summer!

I love sleeping late.
I love taking naps.
I love hanging out with my friends.
I love reading books.
I love eating snow cones.
I love wearing flip flops and sundresses.
I love doing WHATEVER I want to do!

This is THE first summer since I was 5 years old where I will not have a summer. Yuck!

In Korea, the school year goes from March to December. So I will not get a summer this year.

I will get 8 days off. That's it.

8 measly days.

So while you're relaxing on the beach this summer or sleeping until 11:00 am, think of me. Maybe even drink a Route 44 Cherry Limeade for me! Only my friends in the South might know that reference...

So what are your summer plans?

My "summer" plans are contingent on my plans for next year. Here's what I mean....
I have 2 options:

  • Option 1: Go to Bali during my summer vacation. I have wanted to go to Bali for a while. It's calling my name.
  • Option 2: I would have to get this approved from my school first. Save my 8 days until the end of my contract and come home early.
The last day of my contract is August 25th, which just happens to be the day that most school districts start back home. If I came home early, I would be able to start school at the beginning. I would even be able to go to most of the inservice training.

However, if I came home when my contract was over, I would not be able to start teaching until around the beginning of September (I would need a couple of days to recuperate). I would miss inservice days. And I would miss the beginning of school.

Decisions. Decisions. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

So....if you were in my place, what would YOU do? Comment away!
